Violence in Our World

Violence in Our World

Q.   Is violence permanent in our world? I am a Christian, but scared how violence is affecting me. How can I be free of fear?

A.   In Noah’s day, Gen 6:11 says, the earth was filled with violence. Jesus said in Matt 24:37 that such violence would characterise the days before His return. Violence is the spirit of these evil End Times days.

Since December 2010 there have been violent protests and riots in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Western Sahara; even in South Africa. The sad unrest has continued and even intensified, particularly in Syria. Large protests have also been occurring in Israel since mid-July 2011 with hundreds of thousands of angry people gathering in the streets to protest the high cost of living.

Poverty and backlash from government austerity has also led to demonstrations and riots in Brazil, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Areas of London, and other cities, descended into a state of chaos during the early days of August 2011. Trouble in the USA has not abated. The Mayor of Philadelphia has banned children 13-18 from the streets after 9pm. We could just go on and on …!

Sadly, people’s protests have gone beyond issues; it’s pretty clear that mobs get to love violence for the sake of violence!

To answer your question, violence is not permanent. The Prince of Peace will soon return! Lift up your head; your redemption is near!    And, YES, you can live without fear. Eph 2:14 tells that more than give us peace, Jesus has become our peace. Praise His Name! Let Him live His peace in you. He lives in you as the Hope of Glory, Col 1:27. Believing, trusting, loving and communing with Him will settle your heart.

The past 50 years has seen more martyrs for Christ than in all previous History. If it comes to that for us, and it may, then know that the One Who saved you will be with you all the way, and will receive you into His glory! In Christ we cannot lose!
